[David Miscavige’s] level of care … is always very … touching.… It’s been very, very important to me and my family because he is the religious leader of a worldwide religion that’s growing, every week it gets bigger and stronger. Patrick Clouden

Video Transcript:

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Miscavige at many events and—Church events over the years—one of which was the Buffalo Grand Opening when I was there with my brother-in-law Joe Sgroi and my sister Betsy Sgroi and my family, and we all got to meet with the Chairman of the Board to get our picture taken. And my brother-in-law Joe says to Mr. Miscavige, “You have to have chicken wings. You have to have chicken wings from the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York, which is the birthplace of chicken wings on planet Earth, is the Anchor Bar on Main Street in Buffalo, New York.” So Joe’s saying, “We got to go, come on, we’re going to go out to the—we’re going to go down to the Anchor Bar.” And Mr. Miscavige says, “Well, Joe, I don’t think I can go, but I’ll tell you what…” And he sent one of his staff down to the Anchor Bar and we got—I don’t know, he must have gotten eight dozen chicken wings. You know, from super-hot all the way down to mild. So we’re in the conference room and we’re having chicken wings. And we’re just telling stories and the Chairman of the Board, or Mr. Miscavige, actually goes for the super-hot chicken wings, like the hottest ones, and I was like, “Sir, those are pretty hot,” right. “Oh, I love the hot ones, I love the hot ones,” right. So he’s having the scorching-hot chicken wings. Anyways, I saw him a couple weeks later at a Church event and the first thing he says to me, “Well, you can see I survived the chicken wings.”

And his care factor for when my brother-in-law Joe got sick, and his care factor for my family and how much he made sure that Joe was taken care of from the Church’s perspective, made sure that there was Church staff, you know, available to be able to help him and assist him. And his level of care for that was, to me, is always very, very—how would I say it—touching. And it’s been very, very important to me and my family because he is the religious leader of a worldwide religion that’s growing, every week it gets bigger and stronger. And, but to have that level of care and—you know, I actually wrote him a letter about this, you know, thanking him for this. And he wrote me back, handwritten note, how he felt it was his job, it was his responsibility for that level of care and that level of interest. And he definitely demonstrates that.
